Known as the “Sultan of the North,” Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon, invites visitors to explore its beautiful streets lined with buildings of great antiquity, some dating back to the 17th century, along with striking modern architecture.

Surrounded by spectacular mountains, notably the Cerro de la Silla, this city is one of the three most significant in Mexico in terms of economic activity.

Monterrey offers many unique pleasures. One includes a trip along the Paseo Santa Lucía, a navigable canal that can be followed both on water or via a towpath dotted with fountains and gardens. The classic local dish of barbecued goat is a must, as is tasting a Gloria, a favorite regional sweet made from goat’s milk and pecans.

Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, the city is home to major artistic, cultural, and business events with an infrastructure of plazas, financial developments, industrial sites, parks, and sports complexes. An excellent example is the beautiful and versatile Parque Fundidora, a city icon. The Monterrey Rayados, a winning soccer team, is another source of pride for the city. And Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of  Technology) is one of the largest private universities in Latin America. Monterrey also offers numerous museums and cultural centers that invite visitors to journey through time.

When in Monterrey, don’t miss the Barrio Antiguo (Old Neighborhood). As the first colony built in the area and located in the city center, enjoyment and art are the main attractions owing to numerous nighttime venues, bars, and restaurants.

With these and more delights, this cosmopolitan city spreads out among the peaks, offering fun, adventure, and relaxation that will satisfy all visitors.
