Maya Skies: Calakmul
An unforgettable day in ancient Calakmul. A full day in the ancient city, from dawn to dusk, participants learn the history, architecture, and of the profound relationship of the ancient Maya had with the cosmos.
Mornings, visitors explore the key points from which the Maya made astronomical observations, understanding their relevance to the daily life of the city. The connection between the sky and the earth makes more sense through architecture and astronomical sightings.
By the afternoon, you get a workshop to the understand the preparation of food crops, discovering the symbolism of the fire and its link to the legend of the first Maya people. Visitors also get a chance to make the tortillas served with lunch and cooked over the fire.
When night falls, a clear spot in the forest lets you see just how many stars are in the sky. Along with stories of Maya interpretations of the stars and beginning of the universe, the nighttime forest turns truly magical. Tamales and chocolate are served, and the experience extends into the night. Camping is recommended to tke in the entire experience more comfortably and with no hurry.
