Lancandon Jungle Immersion
One of the best ways to experience the Lacandon Jungle, the Top Che Center and the people of Lacanjá Chansayab in Chiapas invite you to see and exlore the jungle like never before. The little town is home to a number of small and sustainable campgrounds and eco-centers. Based on all of them you get a sustainable holiday, and one that helps to support the conservation of the area you get to visit. The experience is guided by Lacandon families trained in rafting, hiking, and doing artisan work with the people who come to visit.
Craft workshops introduce Lacandon arrow making, dream catchers, and traditional jewelry. All of them rely in ancient techniques. Rafting can take you into the heart of the Lacanjá river valleys, Guide hikes explore jungle trails that lead to waterfalls and archaeological sites. Guides can also help you to explore local plant and wildlife, while respecting the deep cultural traditions of the area.
Lodging is also a few pegs above the usual wooden cabin. Because the site is so remote, people will want to stay a few days or even longer. There really is a lot to explore, and the small village of Lacanjá Chansayab is just big enough so that you needn't feel entirely isolated.
The drive from Palenqueto the TopChe Center takes just under two hours. Because of the mountains the jungle, there are not direct routes westward toward Comitán. This is serious jungle territory and it is not covered by much public transport, other than some cooperativos between the few small population centers.
