Fiesta de las Velas
La Fiesta de las Velas, a unique religious event in the world with nearly 300 years of tradition that frames the culture, history, and gastronomy of Cosalá and Sinaloa, will take place in this Pueblo Mágico to celebrate the Virgen de Guadalupe.
La Fiesta de las Velas begins on the night of December 11th with a procession at the Capilla de Guadalupe in Cosalá, where thousands of candles are lit to illuminate the chapel and the streets, and each participant carries a candle to light the path of the religious ritual through the main streets of the city, which is accompanied by dances such as thedanza de bramadores del jaguarand thebaile de los mineros.
The celebration, which rescues the essence of the usos y costumbres of Cosalá, concludes with a cultural event in the chapel's atrium where the apparition of the virgen de Guadalupe is reenacted, religious songs are performed, in addition to offering samples of local art and allowing people to taste the regional gastronomy.
Year after year, the number of visitors increases, and they enjoy the closeness to their beliefs and the mystical idea of Cosalá of welcoming the Virgen Morena.
