The National Potosina Fair is such a huge event it actually goes by an acronym: FENAPO. Easily one of the biggest fairs of it\\\\\\\'s kind, it\\\\\\\'s part farm show, part religious street fair, and a lot of trade fair. The grounds are rented out for other conventions and trade expos during the rest of the year. But residents know it as the fair grounds and planning for the few weeks in August (usually the final three weeks) dominates much of life, and news, and planning.
The capital city of San Luis Potosí first hosted the event in 1942 when it was called La Gran Feria Potosina. Since then, the fair has been the site of concerts, cultural events, acres of shopping, and a tremendous variety of local and national cuisine. While there is still a commercial angle to the fair, the general public always finds plenty that\\\\\\\'s just specialized enough to be of general interest.
It\\\\\\\'s been a National Fair since the 1960s. That means the fair is actually intended for and directed towards absolutely everyone. The crowds throng to the general interest pavilions, an enormous culinary and traditional foods area, the artisan pavilion, and the Palenque Mariachi Plaza where music plays around the clock.
There is still an important livestock area, traditional rides and games, a giant lake, and multiple performance stages. It\\\\\\\'s such a big fair, it\\\\\\\'s always memorable, and this one comes back every August.
