“Vive SanCris” Festival
During April, San Cristóbal de las Casas transforms into a vibrant stage of tradition, music, and diversity with the Vive SanCris 2025 festival. This event brings together hundreds of artists, cultural groups, and visitors—both local and from afar—over two weeks in an experience that reaffirms the rich heritage at the heart of Chiapas.
From the inaugural parade, the city’s cobblestone streets fill with color and mysticism. Traditional groups such as the Panzudos de La Merced, the comparsas of the Zoque Coiteco Carnival, representatives from Chamula, and iconic figures from the Fiesta Grande of Chiapa de Corzo proudly make their way to the Museo de San Cristóbal (MUSAC), in a symbolic procession celebrating the state’s cultural diversity.
At night, the Central Park becomes an open forum of art and expression. The air fills with rhythms of son, cumbia, guajira, and bolero. Pre-Hispanic dances, ritual theater performances, and poetic readings move those who gather to experience culture in all its forms.
Beyond entertainment, Vive SanCris serves as a bridge between generations and regions, providing a platform to highlight the living cultural diversity of Chiapas. Workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, and panel discussions complement the program, offering spaces for learning and reflection.
“Vive SanCris” stands as a celebration of collective spirit, where past and present converse, and where San Cristóbal affirms itself not only as a tourist destination but as a hub of culture, identity, and connection.
