Matatán is a mountain community in the municipality of El Rosario, known as the “Jardín del Estado” for its cool climate, mountainous landscapes, and abundance of vegetation. Founded in colonial times, it retains its charm as a traditional town with quiet streets, typical houses, and an atmosphere of hospitality.

Among its attractions are the church of San Antonio de Padua, its rivers and natural swimming spots, as well as its religious traditions, especially during Holy Week, where aviacruciswith over 100 years of antiquity is held, recognized as one of the most important in the region.
