Día de la Candelaria en Matatán
Every February 2nd, the community of Matatán, in the municipality of El Rosario, celebrates with great fervor the Día de la Candelaria, a festivity in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria. This celebration combines religious acts, such as masses and processions, with cultural and festive activities that bring together faithful from the region and visitors.
The festival is an opportunity to experience up close the mountain traditions, popular music, local gastronomy, and the community spirit that characterizes the inhabitants of Matatán. In addition to its religious aspect, the festivity reflects the cultural syncretism that forms part of the identity of southern Sinaloa.
In February, Matatán, Sinaloa, celebrates the centuries-old festival of the Virgen de la Candelaria with processions,rosarios de aurora, masses, the blessing of candles and images of the Niño Dios, and the dances of thematachines. The celebration, which honors the patron saint of thesindicatura, takes place on February 2nd and involves the community in a walk through the streets with candles, and a final procession with the image of the Virgin.
