Copala
Copala is an ancient mining community located in the municipality of Concordia, Sinaloa, famous for its colonial architecture and its history linked to the exploitation of gold and silver during the 16th and 17th centuries. Founded in 1565 by the Spanish, this town became one of the most important mining centers in the region.
Visit, Copala 24 km away. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental, the small town preserves almost intact the provincial air of the colonial era. Entering Copala means entering a paradise where time seems to have stopped among the cobbled and steep alleys. Visit the Iglesia de San José, a masterpiece of colonial Baroque in the region. The mining origins of the region are showcased in a small Museo Minero, known as the Casa de la Piedra, where a wide variety of objects used in mining work are exhibited.
