Festividad de la Virgen de Candelaria

​The Festividad de la Virgen de la Candelaria is one of the most important religious and popular celebrations in Mexico. Every February 2nd, the faithful commemorate the presentation of the Niño Jesús in the temple and the purification of the Virgen María.
​In Tlacotalpan, declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the festivity is accompanied by religious processions, blessing of candles, paseos of the Virgin along the río Papaloapan,jaripeos, concerts, dances, and a popular fair.
​Additionally, the gastronomic tradition of sharingtamalesandatoleis preserved, especially among those who drew the figurine in therosca de Reyes.​
