Festival of the Day of the Dead: Journey to Mictlán (Valle de Santiago)
The “Camino al Mictlán” festival is a Day of the Dead celebration organized in the municipality of Valle de Santiago, in the state of Guanajuato. It is based on the symbolic journey to the Mexica underworld, known as “Mictlán.”
Its purpose is to honor the deceased, strengthen local traditions, promote cultural identity, and at the same time create a community experience open to both tourists and locals.
When and where?
Location: Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato.
The main day of the festival in 2025 is scheduled for November 1st.

Some activities extend through November 1st and 2nd, such as the monumental skull contest.
The central location for activities is La Alameda de Valle de Santiago, among other public venues.
