Huamantla senderismo
âLa Malinche is an extinct volcano with preâHispanic history; its gradual ascent lets hikers travel from temperate forests to alpine meadows. Along the trail youâll encounter hawks and highâmountain wildflowers. In addition to daytime excursions, the park organizes night hikes to stargaze and hear legends about the goddess Matlalcueye. Nearby ecotourism centers rent cabins and offer mountain biking, rappelling and workshops on forest conservation.
In addition to natural attractions, certified guides interpret the park's plants and wildlife, pointing out medicinal herbs and endemic species. Several natural viewpoints let you watch the sunrise over nearby valleys and volcanoes, and during the rainy season mountain streams feed temporary waterfalls. Visitors can also meet nearby indigenous communities, who share their worldview of the mountain and offer traditional foods such as maize atole and bean tamales.â
