Gabriel Orozco at Museo Jumex
The Museo Jumex presents the first museum exhibition of Gabriel Orozco in Mexico since 2006. Orozco is one of the leading contemporary artists in the country and has been a definitive figure in international art for more than three decades. His work constantly challenges the concept of what art can be, how art gets made, and what it focuses on.
Orozco developed his working method in the early 1990s, selecting local and accessible, often found or prefabricated materials to make spontaneous sculptures and photographs. These chance finds allowed his work to be permeated by the place where it was created.
Gabriel Orozco: Politécnico Nacional has been curated by Briony Fer in close collaboration with the artist to trace lines of flight in the practice of Orozco. The exhibition intertwines techniques that the artist has developed over the years, such as the ability to rotate, the concept of symmetry, and the possibility of giving materiality to time.
Gabriel Orozco: Politécnico Nacional includes around 300 works that the artist has produced during his career, from small sculptures to complex installations, between photography and drawing, accompanied by painting, sculpture, assemblages, and games. The exhibition is not categorical, as it corresponds to a turning point and an opportunity to take stock of the current artistic situation.
Exhibition organized by Museo Jumex. Curated by Briony Fer, guest curator, and Carolina Estrada García, curatorial assistant.
