Lunes del Cerro, Guelaguetza 2026
La Guelaguetza 2026, the highest cultural celebration of Oaxaca, returns with its traditional Mondays on the Hill and its Octava, which will take place on July 20 and 27 at the iconic Guelaguetza Auditorium. This festival, recognized for preserving and disseminating the cultural wealth of the state, brings together the eight regions of Oaxaca: Cañada, Costa, Istmo de Tehuantepec, Mixteca, Papaloapan, Sierra de Flores Magón, Sierra Juárez, and Valles Centrales, whose towns proudly share their dances, sones, jarabes, and musical expressions that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Each delegation presents a show full of identity, accompanied by colorful traditional costumes that reflect the history, textile art, and customs of their communities. To the rhythm of marching bands, traditional instruments, and representative songs, the participants offer a display of the spirit of the Guelaguetza, whose meaning is based on solidarity, reciprocity, and the act of sharing with others.
As part of this grand celebration, the delegations also carry out the traditional distribution of gifts to the public, delivering typical products from their communities, an expression that symbolizes the generosity and sense of community that distinguish Oaxaca.
Additionally, attendees will be able to enjoy this grand event in an accessible manner, as boxes C and D of the Guelaguetza Auditorium are completely free, allowing more people to experience up close one of the most important cultural manifestations of Mexico and the world. Guelaguetza 2026 awaits you to celebrate the diversity, talent, and traditions that make Oaxaca a unique destination.
