Wotoch Aayín
A fantastic finale to the Dzitbalché corridor, the House of the Crocodiles works to welcome visitors into the most important and valuable parts of the Isla Arena in Campeche.
Wotoch Aayín is the Mayan language name for the Casa del Cocodrilo, the Crocodile House that has come to be one of the leading service providers for visitors to the Isla Arena. The center includes the entrance to the crocodile farm and trails into the mangroves where they provide extensive and customize-able guided tours.
Visitors learn all about the importance of crocodiles to the mangroves and to rest of the environment. There's also a chance to paddle a kayak up the estuary to see more of the mangroves and the incredible birds that call the region home. Tours allow visitors to meet the Moretti crocodile hatchlings and to learn about the main pair of breeding crocodiles, and the other adult crocodiles. A trip through the mangrove tunnel gives you a glimpse of the varieties of mangrove and the importance of each one to the overall environment. This part of the tour ends with the incredible views of the Isla Arena estuary. Finally, guests return to the original trail and the area of younger crocodiles where they are separated by age and size. Meet one of the youngest and learn about how they are all kept safe and growing.
On site, there is a seafood restaurant, specializing in fish, seafood, and exotic cuisine. Accommodations include access to the swimming pool and hammocks. Double and triple rooms have air conditioning, hot water, and TV. At night, guests marvel at the stars, fireflies, and, in season, the bioluminescence of the sea.
Most guests will arrive via the Dzitbalché tourism corridor that also includes Nunkiní, Santa Cruz, Tankuché, and El Remate. The Isla Arena is usually considered the end of the corridor that begins at the Tren Maya station in Calkiní. It's a fantastic trip, but the Wotoch Aayin makes the end even more exciting and rewarding than when you're just setting off.
