Regional Museum of Tlaxcala INAH
The heart of the XVI century Franciscan ex-convent
The Regional Museum of Tlaxcala (INAH) transports you through millennia of history in the heart of a 16th-century Franciscan convent, right next to the Cathedral. Its 10 galleries are alive with approximately 3,000 authentic artifacts: from Paleolithic fossils and Cacaxtla pottery to the impressive Lienzo de Tlaxcala, conquistador armor, and colonial paintings that reveal the strategic alliance between Tlaxcala and Cortés.
Explore the Mudéjar ceiling with its gold leaf—a unique architectural gem—tactile displays for all ages, and temporary exhibitions that bring the pre-Hispanic, colonial, and revolutionary narrative to life. It's the perfect place to understand how Tlaxcala shaped the Mexican nation.
