Zacatón

El Zacatón is a natural miracle that defies the imagination and draws scientists and adventurers from all over the globe. Located in the municipality of Aldama, this aquatic abyss is the deepest water-filled sinkhole (cenote) on Earth, boasting a measured depth of over 1,000 feet (339 meters). The site owes its name to the unique circular islands of grass (zacate) that float on its surface, moving freely from side to side driven by the wind. Surrounded by imposing rock walls and wild vegetation, this breathtaking turquoise thermal sinkhole is part of a larger network of cenotes connected by underground tunnels, creating a mystical, wild, and visually stunning landscape.
