Celebrating tradition and community unity in San Javier, Sinaloa

Tradicional Taspana

Dating back to the 19th century, the Fiesta de la Taspana is a unique celebration in the historic village of San Javier that beautifully blends community labor with pure Sinaloan joy. Every third Sunday of October, locals and travelers grab their machetes to clear away the wild summer overgrowth from the streets, transforming a town cleanup chore into a massive, lively parade filled with dancing, laughter, and unmatched festive energy.

What awaits you?

  • The Lively "Taspanador" Parade: Dance down the streets to the rhythm of live Sinaloan brass bands as the crowd clears the paths, led by a traditional donkey carrying local drinks to keep the hardworking participants refreshed.

  • Living Folklore & Community: Experience the genuine warmth of the locals firsthand, admire traditional festive outfits, and discover a century-old custom that unites the entire town through shared effort and music.

  • Local Crafts & Flavors: Take advantage of your visit to San Javier to taste their legendary artisanal pan-churned ice creams (helados de paila) and explore the town's traditional brick and clay-tile workshops.
