The long pilgrimage of evangelization and civil colonization of Baja and Alta California began from Loreto, and notable examples of missionary architecture can be found in and around Loreto. In addition to its rich history, Loreto offers its visitors stunning natural landscapes and islands with a diversity of endemic flora and fauna. Loreto\\\'s underwater life is also rich in contrasts, from blue whale watching to diving in the National Marine Park.

The town of Loreto was incorporated into the Magical Towns program on June 15, 2012.

Some of the activities you can do in Loreto include: visiting the Mission of Our Lady of Loreto and of San Francisco Javier de Viggé Biaundó, whale watching on Isla del Carmen, exploring the Sierra de la Giganta, and visiting the Historic Center. Its most famous festivals are: the Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Loreto, the Foundation of Loreto, and the Fiesta de San Javier.

Its local cuisine is characterized by the following dishes: fish and beef machaca, cheese, flour tortillas, burritos, coffee from a bag, and its most representative dish, charred clams.

In its markets, you can find artisanal figurines made from seashells and hand-woven garments, as well as a wide variety of fish and seafood.
