San Antonio de las Alazanas Mummy Museum

One of the most prominent collections of mummies in Mexico

San Antonio de las Alazanas Mummy Museum

The San Antonio de las Alazanas Mummy Museum is roughly a 40-minute drive southeast of Arteaga. The even smaller town of San Antonio de las Alazanas hosts the macabre collection comprised entirely of interred, and preserved, human remains from the town\\\'s old cemetery.

The mummified human remains today tell the story of the San Antonio de las Alazanas region, it\\\'s long history, and the families who came to be interred here. Visitors learn their stories, and how the unique desert climate led to their preservation and the historical relevance of the town\\\'s funerary practices and traditions.

The museum takes special care so that all visitors come away with a good idea of the region\\\'s past, culture, and the impact of history on the town of today. More famous for the annual tractor fair, antique cars, and the fields and fields of sunflowers, a trip here can enliven any visit to Arteaga. The town also boasts a tremendous number of eateries in addition to the broad streets and friendly fare.
