Huatabampito
Some of the most isolated and enchanting beach territory on the Sea of Tranquility, it's a space to enliven the spirit with deep relaxation where endless waves meet the calmest of coast.
Huatabampito is the tiny beach front community some 20 minutes to the south of Huatabampo on the stunning coast of the Sea of Cortez. Entirely gentle, it's also stunningly forlorn and seldom crowded. Gentle waves whisper at the edge of golden sand beaches and blue-green waters invite visitors to a calm that is otherworldly and unforgettable. The little town is just west of a little commercial fishery, but there is little traffic, almost no noise, and a wind that seems to ease away everything that you thought was a Mexico beach. It's some of the best beach territory in Sonora and some of the most isolated on the coast of the Sea of Cortez.
In winter, the coast gains some extra attention as the site of whale watching tour out on the open sea. There is also an exciting ATV rental industry, and these, thankfully disappear over the dunes and across the surrounding landscape. It's big enough to always seem placid. Kayaking the gentle coast is always a welcome way to see much more of it.
The tiny community is probably most proud of the malecón, the walkway that spans most of the accesible beachfront. The little town offers a number of lodging establishments, and plenty of places to eat. But the streets are not paved, and the pace of life is anything but hectic. It's a pristine and laid back place to while away days, and to talk into the night. Recounting memories and making plans is about the only thing on the agenda.
Most guests will arrive from the slightly larger town of Huatabampo, and taxis there will get you on your way. Los Mochis definitely has its contingent representation in Huatabampito. It's about 2.5 hours to the southeast along the coast. Albatros Buses make the trip a few times a day, although you may need to change buses in Navojoa, Sonora.
