Costa Mujeres
The newer stretch of Bohemian and luxe coast that faces the beloved island and a Caribbean as dreamy and tranquil as any you could ever remember.
La Costa Mujeres is a newer stretch of development that has grown up on the coast of the Caribbean and facing the beloved Isla Mujeres. Some 20 minutes north of the famous Cancun resort district, it can feel much further. Eventually, the coast itself extends out into the sea, forming a peninsula that separates the open Caribbean from the giant Chacmuchuch Lagoon. The peninsula will only eventually end at Isla Blanca.
The entire area is prized for the white sand beaches and the cushioning landscape of mangroves and jungle. The sea is the same as that celebrated to the south in Cancun, but with a fraction of the numbers and fewer really big resorts. Hotels are more boutique, and many are as likely to offer palapas and hammocks as luxury suites and private Jacuzzis. Those are here too, but the style is more in the line with kite-surfing and nature exploration.
Visitors will generally arrive to the Costa Mujeres after some experience of Cancun, proper and the resorts district there. The atmosphere is much quieter and the sea, already more tranquil, is just that much more seductive. People stay for weeks, and some for weeks every year, year upon year. It's unforgettable, and close.
The coast is close to the lights and activity and shopping at Cancun, but also close to the Cancun Airport and the Tren Maya station. Many will find that rail connection to the rest of the peninsula even that much more of a comfort. After all that relaxing, you can set off for the adventure of a lifetime.
