Balam Kin

The Balam Kin Flora and Fauna Protection Area, part of the Mayan Jungle, maintains ecological and biological connectivity with other federal protected natural areas such as the Balam Kú Biosphere Reserve, Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, and the Voluntarily Designated Conservation Areas: Benito Juárez, Ejido Matamoros, Moku, 5 de Febrero, and Pixoyal. It has high biodiversity and well-preserved ecosystems, as well as important archaeological sites belonging to the Maya culture and recent discoveries that are in the process of being published.

This area, annexed to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, boasts countless natural landscapes, especially the aguadas, unique bodies of water formed by the region's soil.

Its flora includes precious woods such as mahogany and cedar. As for its fauna, there is a large number of amphibian, reptile, bird, and mammal species, among which the howler monkey, ocelot, margay, puma, and jaguar stand out.

Exploring it requires forging your own path through trails opened in the past by chicleros (gum harvesters) and loggers.
