Living Museum: The Bugs of Malinalco

In the Magic Town of Malinalco, located in the State of Mexico, you’ll find this unique museum that moves away from the idea of simply exhibiting and admiring inanimate objects and instead focuses on presenting life — emphasizing its importance and conservation.

The Museo Vivo (Living Museum) is one of a kind in the region, combining efforts to research, protect, breed, exhibit, and release various animal and plant species with the goal of fostering a deeper understanding of the need for their preservation.

The conservation capsule is made up of 14 different areas, designed to provide visitors with direct contact with the local flora and fauna.

In this space, you can walk among butterflies, touch and feel reptiles, hold turtles, learn about medicinal plants, observe the mantis breeding area, pet tarantulas, and much more.

How to get there by bus:

  • From Mexico City (CDMX): From the Observatorio Terminal, take a Flecha Roja bus directly to Malinalco.

  • Schedules: Fridays at 4:20 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays at 8:20 a.m., 4:20 p.m., and 6:20 p.m.

  • Cost: Approximately $110 MXN.
