Sal Real de Colima: The Salt Route, a Heritage to Discover

The Salt Route in the state of Colima in Mexico is a tourism experience developed by Sal Real de Colima with the objective of highlighting the state’s productive, cultural, and natural heritage, while promoting regional tourism and strengthening local identity.

The experience consists of a guided tour within the salt production facility, where visitors learn about the traditional salt-making process, its history in Colima, and the economic and cultural significance this activity has had over time. The tour includes visits to the production area, the lagoon, and the mangrove, offering an educational, environmental, and immersive approach.

The Salt Route can be complemented with interactive activities such as “Vive la pizca”, which allows symbolic participation in the traditional salt harvesting process, and “Mi primer costalito”, a family-oriented experience in which visitors create and take home a handcrafted souvenir. A regional breakfast is also offered, promoting local gastronomy and local economic spillover.
