Botanical Gardens in Jalisco and Where to Visit Them

Day 1: Botanical Gardens in Jalisco and Where to Visit Them

If you’re looking for a different kind of experience in Jalisco—one that blends nature, design, and that calm, cinematic feeling—the botanical gardens of Jalisco are a route you can’t miss.

Whether you’re planning a quiet family outing, an adventure with friends, or a date that feels like a movie scene, these spaces allow you to reconnect with what matters, learn about local and global flora, and discover landscapes you never imagined so close to you.

Here are four botanical gardens in Jalisco you should visit, along with tips, hours, and what makes each unique:

1. Fernando González Gortázar Collection – Guadalajara
Located in the heart of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, this botanical garden pays tribute to architect Fernando González Gortázar, known for sculptures like Los Cubos and La Gran Puerta. What many don’t know is that this garden was born from his personal collection of botanical species, now open to all inside Parque Alcalde.

You can explore its two areas for free: the Arid Zone and the Rainforest, which together house more than 3,000 species, from Mexican cacti to exotic specimens from Madagascar and Africa.

🕒 Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

2. Bosque Pedagógico del Agua Botanical Garden – Zapopan
This botanical garden in Colomos III is one of Zapopan’s best-kept secrets. Located on Av. Acueducto in Colonia Lomas del Bosque, this free-entry space is dedicated to planting and conserving species such as ahuehuetes, mezquites, and parotas.

In addition to enjoying peaceful walks and viewpoints, you can participate in environmental education workshops in its activity spaces and multi-use terraces.

3. Vallarta Botanical Garden – Puerto Vallarta
A green paradise located along the road to Boca de Tomatlán from Puerto Vallarta. This garden has been recognized by USA Today and the Garden Tourism Awards for its conservation efforts and the display of endemic regional plants.

During your visit, you can birdwatch, discover plants you never imagined, cool off in the river, and finish with a meal at the Hacienda de Oro restaurant and bar.
