Olmec Circuit Route

Travel to the heart of Veracruz and discover the Olmec and Sotavento Route, where history, flavor, and tradition come together in a unique experience. Explore the ancient Olmec sites of San Lorenzo, La Venta, and Tres Zapotes; enjoy Jarocho culture in Tlacotalpan and the charms of Coatepec, Jáltipan, and Cosoleacaque. Savor Bola de Oro coffee, admire the Xalapa Museum of Anthropology, and relive history in the “La Huaca” neighborhood. Day 1: Olmec Circuit Route

Arrival at Minatitlán Airport, breakfast, and transfer to the first Olmec site: La Venta Museum Park.

Day 2: Olmec Circuit Route

A transfer of approximately 2 hours to San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan, home to 10 of the 17 colossal heads. At the archaeological site, our host will guide us through the details of the early excavations. Afterward, we’ll take a one-and-a-half-hour transfer to Cosoleacaque, a town of Olmec origin that has preserved its traditions. There, we’ll visit the local market to sample tamales made with “masa colada” and the traditional drink known as “popo,” a beverage made from cacao and corn. Finally, we’ll head to the hotel in Minatitlán to rest and have dinner.

Day 3: Olmec Circuit Route

Breakfast and check-out from the hotel. After a 40-minute drive, we’ll visit the Son Jarocho Documentation Center in Jáltipan, a space dedicated to preserving the history and regional culture of son jarocho. There, we’ll explore the textile tradition of southern Veracruz, learning about its history, evolution, and techniques. In addition, we’ll have the opportunity to weave on a backstrap loom, creating a small piece as part of the “Corazón de Telar” project.

We’ll enjoy a traditional meal on-site and then head to the Jomxuk Ecotourism Center and Indigenous Paradise, where we’ll end the day by watching the sunset and enjoying a special dinner.

Day 4: Olmec Circuit Route

In the morning, we’ll spend time with the community, touring the botanical garden and learning about its plants and traditions. After lunch, we’ll participate in a traditional cleansing ritual, a unique cultural and spiritual experience. Jomxuk is a community organization located in Amamaloya, Soteapan, in the Popoluca indigenous region. In the afternoon, we’ll have free time to rest. We’ll end the day with dinner and rest for the night.
