Tajín Route
The route begins in Poza Rica, the perfect starting point for a cultural and natural journey through the Totonac region. It includes the impressive El Tajín Archaeological Site and Takilhsukut Park, where the Center for Indigenous Arts keeps traditions alive. In Papantla, a “Magical Town” known for its traditional flyers and vanilla, you can breathe in history and the scent of the past. The adventure continues in Tlapacoyan, with El Encanto Waterfall and the rapids of the Filobobos River, and culminates on the serene beaches of Costa Esmeralda, where you can enjoy the unique experience of releasing sea turtles.
The Tajín Route offers a comprehensive 5-day, 4-night itinerary, beginning in Poza Rica, a modern city with excellent infrastructure and tourist services. On the first day, you’ll tour its main attractions, such as the Community Museum (MUCI), which preserves regional history and culture; the urban murals, which reflect local art and traditions; and La Maquinita, an iconic locomotive that evokes the city’s railroad heritage. The day ends with a well-deserved rest, preparing you for an unforgettable cultural adventure through the heart of Totonacapan.
The second day begins with a visit to the El Tajín Archaeological Zone, one of the most iconic sites of Totonac culture, featuring the Pyramid of the Niches, the Ball Court, and the impressive pre-Hispanic architecture that reveals the ingenuity of this civilization.
Afterward, you’ll explore the Takilhsukut Theme Park, a space designed to connect with Totonac culture in a participatory way. Here, you can enjoy pottery, painting, and culinary workshops, as well as interact with the women of the Humo community, paying homage to the Totonac ancestors.
In the afternoon, the tour continues in Papantla, where you’ll experience the iconic Ceremony of the Flyers, visit the Teodoro Cano Museum with its cultural mural, and explore local crafts, traditional cuisine, and the region’s renowned vanilla production.

The third day is dedicated to connecting with nature in Tlapacoyan, an ideal destination for lovers of adventure and lush landscapes. The day begins with a visit to El Encanto Waterfall, where you can enjoy its beauty and tranquility—perfect for photos and moments of relaxation.
The adventure continues at the Filobobos River rapids, an exhilarating rafting experience that lets you feel the river’s power while admiring the surrounding jungle landscapes.
At the end of the day, you’ll return to Poza Rica to rest and recharge, preparing for the coming days of culture, history, and ecotourism.
The fourth day is dedicated to enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Costa Esmeralda, an ideal destination for relaxing on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. You can stroll along its soft sandy beaches, admire the scenery, and take the opportunity to rest in a calm, natural setting.
Accommodations in the area allow you to fully enjoy the day, combining comfort with direct contact with the enchanting coastal landscapes, preparing travelers for the final day of the adventure
The last day offers a unique and mindful experience with nature: participating in or witnessing the release of sea turtles into their natural habitat, an activity available during the season from July through October. This moment allows you to connect with wildlife and bring the adventure to a close with an unforgettable memory.
Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to Poza Rica, from where travelers continue on their way home or to their next destination, taking with them the experiences, landscapes, and traditions that made this tour of Totonacapan and northern Veracruz a memorable adventure.
