They\\\'re recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, no fewer than 11 of them guard the history of the very mountains where they stand.
Architectural and cultural treasures, these former monasteries were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1994. Today they offer testimony to the encounter between the two worlds of their own era, and the beginnings of a new spiritual and cultural history in Mexico. The route of the convents includes the following towns: Atlatlahucan, Cuernavaca, Hueyapan, Oaxtepec, Ocuituco, Tepoztlán, Tetela del Volcán, Tlayacapan, Totolapan, Yecapixtla and Zacualpan de Amilpas.
