Route to the Tacaná Volcano
Between Chiapas and Guatemala stands the mystical and majestic Tacaná Volcano. This natural giant, rising more than 4,000 meters above sea level, is a true challenge for hikers who set out to conquer its summit, as they must face harsh weather conditions, fatigue, and the physical and mental demands of the journey.
For daring adventurers, the ascent to Tacaná begins in the community of Unión Juárez. From here, two possible routes — through Chiquihuites or Talquián — will lead you to the summit. The locals, who know the mountain better than anyone, offer guidance and pack mules to carry your belongings, as well as drinks and food to keep you energized along the way.
The exotic and flower-bedecked center to a region of volcanoes, coffee plantations, and a magical realism that seems barely able to contain itself.
