Award-Winning Experiences of the WTM Latin America Responsible Tourism Awards 2026
Mexican experiences inspiring the world
Mexico celebrates five recognitions at the WTM Latin America Responsible Tourism Awards, highlighting initiatives that promote sustainability, inclusion, and the value of local communities. These experiences showcase the best of responsible tourism in the country and invite travelers to discover an authentic, conscious, and impactful Mexico
In the Yucatán Peninsula, Yucatán, Co’ox Mayab represents a new way of traveling—more connected, more conscious, and deeply human. This network of nine community-based cooperatives was created to transform tourism into a tool for local well-being and cultural preservation.
More than an organization, Co’ox Mayab is a living network that connects travelers with territories, stories, and people. Each experience is designed and operated by the communities themselves, offering authentic opportunities to engage, learn, and share—from exploring jungles and cenotes to participating in traditional workshops and everyday local life.
Its origin lies in a collaborative diagnosis that identified the need to strengthen community tourism in the region. Since then, Co’ox Mayab has built a model based on four key pillars: responsible tourism, meaningful cultural exchange, fair trade, and conscious travel. The result is an experience that not only enriches visitors but also generates real and equitable benefits for local communities.
Recognized for its social impact and innovation, this network has become a benchmark for community-based tourism in Mexico, proving that travel can be more ethical, sustainable, and transformative.
