Álamos

Álamos, designated a Pueblo Mágico on August 18, 2005, was founded in 1685 and stands out for its blend of Spanish Baroque and Indigenous architecture, designed by architects from Andalusia. It is known as "The City of Portals."

It offers various tourist attractions, such as the Antigua Hacienda de los Santos, the Sierra de Álamos Protected Natural Area, the Callejón del Beso, the House of Culture, the Old Mint, El Cuchujaqui, La Aduana, La Alameda, the Scenic Overlook, the Sonora Folk Museum, the María Félix Museum, the Municipal Palace, the Municipal Cemetery, and the Parish of La Purísima Concepción.

Visitors can enjoy American-style steaks, as well as traditional local dishes such as cheese soup (caldo de queso), puchero (meat stew), menudo, beef stew (estofado), liver with onions, and chivichangas stuffed with cheese and beans. Desserts include guava caramel (cajeta de guayaba), guava and caramel turnovers, and candied lemon preserves.

Local crafts include items made of palm, brass, glass, clay, macramé, textiles, rugs, wool embroidery, and sarapes. The craftsmanship of the Guarijío and Mayo peoples is especially notable.

Among its most important festivities are the Dr. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado International Festival, held in January and featuring various cultural events, and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, which includes a fair, dances, and fireworks.
