The Boardwalk in Puerto Vallarta

The Boardwalk may be the very heart of Puerto Vallarta, one of the most emblematic and heavily visited public spaces in the entire state. Facing the fantastic bay, it\\\'s a meeting point for locals and visitors.

Puerto Vallarta has always been more than a sun and beach destination. The boardwalk runs some 750 meters along 12 blocks from the Plaza de los Pescadores-where one of the first hotels of the city still stands- to the Aquiles Serdán Amphitheater. Most people know that as the Arches of the Malecón

The corridor offers spectacular views of the bay, but also has a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, boutiques and jewelry stores. The entire thing was first built in 1935-36 and extended in 1940 and again in 1952. In its 90-year history, it\\\'s been the backdrop for vacations, romances, heartbreaks, roller skaters, and no end of hi-jinx.

The first sculpture "El Niño sobre el Caballo de Mar" known to most as El Caballito dates from 1976. The work is by artist Rafael Zamarripa and quickly became an emblem for the entire city.

The Malecon is still one of the busiest areas of the city. Just off the beach, it\\\'s the center of just about everything happening in Vallarta, and an essential part of any Vallarta vacation.
