The Partenón Zihuatanejo is a cultural center and above-all, a knockout performance space overlooking the Bay of Zihuatenejo. Not surprisingly perhaps, the once-gaudy Greek-inspired facility is also something of a post-modern monument too. Built in the 1970s, at the time, the complex was a tribute to government largess. By the end of the 1980s, it was abandoned. And so it remained for decades until in 2022 it was finally to be rebuilt and re-opened as a cultural center. It opened only in early 2025. 

Today, the Parthenon is a popular site for commemorative portraits. It retains some of the best examples of the sculptures created for the original home. Some went missing during the long years of abandonment. But overall, the site remains one of the best places to take in the splendor of the bay, and the surrounding landscape. 

With breathtaking views of the bay and the Pacific Ocean, concerts go over well here. But most people come just to wander the building and the grounds. The unique combination of history, culture, and intrigue make it a must visit. The center hosts exhibitions, events, readings, lectures, and as mentioned, performances and concerts.

But most of all, it remains just a spot where curious architecture meets the embrace of light that is unique often spellbinding.
