Laguna del Iguanero
La Laguna del Iguanero is one of the most visited sites in El Rosario, both by locals and tourists. It is a natural space that has become a point of recreation and family gathering, surrounded by walkways, green areas, and rest zones.
The place gets its name from the presence of iguanas and local fauna that inhabit the surroundings. Additionally, it is a setting for cultural events, fairs, and popular celebrations, which makes it an identity icon for therosarenses.
Due to the devastating cyclone of 1935, the entrance to the El Tajo mine flooded, giving birth to a lagoon, called del Iguanero, which has now been conditioned to be a meeting place for the enjoyment of its inhabitants. The lagoon has various tunnels in its depths that made up the mining area of El Rosario. This aquifer surrounded by trees and tropical plants is one of the favorite corners of therosarenses, a place of rest in the midst of nature. The waters of the lagoon are characterized by their intense green color, a reflection of the surrounding vegetation, and in some points they reach more than 30 meters deep. They abound with turtles, fish, and, of course, the iguanas that have given the place its name. The best way to enjoy the environment is by taking a walk along the paths, either on foot or by bicycle, crossing the lagoon via the suspension bridge and getting lost along the park paths that surround it.
