Great Pyramid of Cholula
The Great Pyramid of Cholula, also known as Tlachihualtepetl, is one of the most impressive pre-Hispanic monuments in Mexico and the world. It has the largest pyramidal base on the planet, measuring 450 meters per side, surpassing even the pyramids of Egypt. Built by the Olmec–Xicalanca culture, this colossal structure represents centuries of ritual construction and transformation, standing as a powerful symbol of the region’s deep Indigenous past.
Today, visitors can explore the interior tunnels of the pyramid and ascend to the summit, where the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies stands. From this point, breathtaking views of the Puebla Valley and surrounding volcanoes unfold, creating a unique setting where pre-Hispanic heritage and religious devotion coexist in harmony.
