Teúl de González Ortega

Teúl de González Ortega is a small town in Zacatecas. Recognized as a Pueblo Mágico in 2011, the name could be translated as "Abode of the Gods." It\\\'s a great day trip from Guadalajara, and a favorite for those seeking a relaxed and inviting forest atmosphere. The town was renamed for a former governor and ally of Benito Juarez, Jesús González Ortega (1822–1881).

Teúl draws visitors in with colonial architecture although its most famous for the gargoyles, cobblestone walkways, quarry-stone walls, and the surrounding blue agave fields.

The Cerro del Teul Archaeological Zone is extensive and visitors are invited to the local trajinera boat rides above the Plan de Los Alamos Dam which offers a considerable lake.

For cultural and historical visitors, Teúl is famous for the local workshops in and around the Historic Center. The Municipal Market and the Trinidad Cervantes Portals are normally alive with merchants and visitors. The Don Aurelio Mezcal Factory and the San Juan Bautista Parish Church are also among historic favorites for visitors.

Teúl fuses history, culture, and natural beauty. Local products include mezcal, extensive pottery and wood carvings.

The local food scene includes baked gorditas, queso de rancho, and fresh requesón (similar to cottage cheese).

The most important festivities in the town take place on May 3, the Feast of the Holy Cross and the dance of "Los Morenos." May 5 is the more patriotic parade commemorating the Battle of Puebla. On June 24 each year, the town\\\'s patron saint is feted with ceremonies and festivities

Each November 6 to 22 a Regional Fair brings cultural events and music to the town and one December 12, the Virgin of Guadalupe is celebrated with ceremonies and festivities.
