Cancún

Cancún is as famous and beloved as any vacation site in Mexico. The crown of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancún competes with the very best, and for some, that can mean drop-dead prices and access to discounts and cut-rate fares, and off-season illusions. But Cancún is increasingly a front door, too. 

The launch of the Tren Maya has meant vacation here can include far off pyramids and jungles, little towns that have lost nothing to the rise of luxury hotels and bali beds. Cancún is a natural paradise, but today its beaches and the color of the water are just the start of the adventure. There is nothing quite so glamorous as a night journey by train and waking up to the jungle and the rain.

Known worldwide for turquoise waters and white sand, today Cancún is responding to the need to preserve and protect its environment and the mere decency of its people and place on the map. The more beautiful the place, the more sacred the responsibility to develop sustainably and respectfully.  

Everyone finds the luxury spa they needed, but now they find learning too. Culture can mean traditional cooking, art, or music, and its available. Diving the coral reefs can happen here, or a bit further up the Riviera Maya, but every moment counts. Cancún is a big place, but its getting smaller, more walk-able and friendlier too. 

Most hotels in Cancún will have information about the Tren Maya and the places you can see and get to easily. The station is next to the airport, and departures will follow routes north and south leaving from there. Northbound trains will head for Mérida and places in the state of Yucatan. Southbound trains trace the coast of the Riviera Maya before arriving in the lakes district and even Chiapas. The train is a modern marvel, and just your first step into a vacation experience you\'ll never want to forget.
