Veracruz (5 Days / 4 Nights)

Day 1: Veracruz to Xalapa

We're setting off from Veracruz for the state capital at Xalapa after breakfast in or very near the airport. We'll have a quick tour of the Puerto, too. From there we're setting off to the mountains for an overnight stay in beautiful Xalapa. Chef Clarita from Master Chef Mexico is serving up a special welcome dinner and it's going to be unforgettable.

After dinner, we'll hit the most iconic sites in Xalapa to include the Parque Juárez Park, and sunset at the panoramic National Park. You'll witness the spectacular Government Palace murals, the Cathedral, the House Museum, and the Saint Guízar and Valencia Museum.

By nightfall we'll be in the Xallitic neighborhood with space and time for a late night dinner and all before heading back to the Hotel Xalapa.

Day 2: Xalapa

Xalapa was just the beginning. After breakfast, we'll head to Pacho Viejo and the fantastic Bola de Oro Museum. From there it's the village of Mahuixtlán to learn the secrets of distilling the magical spirits of cane sugar.

You'll get to see the magical twin town of Coatepec and dream everlasting Xico. We'll stay one more night in Xalapa, but this time you'll have time to explore and get to re-visit anything you might have missed, and there's time for dinner too!

Day 3: Tlacotalpan

By this time, you'll be thinking our whirl wind has spun far out from everything you might have thought it would be. But today you'll find yourself in dreamy, color shaded Tlacotalpan. It's not just a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but a slow-paced space for strolling and enjoying. People come here just to walk the streets. There's a langurous boat trip on the Papaloapan, the mighty river that sets the pace of everything happening in town.

The cake-decorated Candelaria church is unforgettable, and you'll have time for the home of poet and playwright, Agustín Lara. And only after you've had time for lunch and exploring, we'll head south through the dreamy emotional landscape to San Andrés Tuxtla. There's a tour by night of the center city, but the best is always a day away.

Day 4: Los Tuxtlas and the Magic of Veracruz

It's jungle day, and what's a jungle without some intrigue, magic, and mystery? After breakfast, we'll explore the giant Tuxtlas wildlife reserve. It's long been a major center of study of biodiversity and the all-kinds-of wildlife you can't miss.

From here, we'll set off for Sontecomapan for lunch and glimpses of the most beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. You'll get time for all of that before you sleep and a big dinner too. There is nothing quite like waking up somewhere entirely new and seeing the world with fresh eyes again.

Day 5: Sontecomapan

After breakfast, we're heading back to the Nanciyaga Ecological Center. In the very heart of the Catemaco jungle, you can take in the lake, the many jungle trails, and the rituals that have led the people here to embrace the past, and the Olmec culture like in few other parts of Mexico. A traditional shaman mud mask can make for a lot of fun, but it's just for those most determined to get the most out of the experience.

From here, we're going back past Alvarado to the magnificent Mandinga Lagoon for lunch. You'll get a local's view on Boca del Río and the very south of the City of Veracruz and all before heading back to the airport and a fantastic goodbye. It's a trip you're going to remember for a long time.
