Environmental Sustainability
The project titled “Interdisciplinary Training Program (PIC) (Fireflies)”, has been active since 2025 in the State of Mexico, reaching 30 ecoparks with an environmental focus.
It is a strategic initiative aimed at promoting the professionalization of existing ecoparks, sustainable tourism development, and economic growth in municipalities that are part of the Volcanoes Route. The PIC seeks to meet the objectives of the Trust by strengthening the capacities of the local tourism sector, improving service quality, and fostering sustainable and competitive tourism in the region.
The training sessions focus on the development of tourism products and interpretive trails, responsible wildlife viewing, species identification, firefly conservation and population monitoring, waste management, water body conservation, protection of native vegetation, group management, and visitor awareness regarding responsible practices.
Main impacts and results of this initiative:
• 30 ecoparks benefited, located in the municipalities of Amecameca, Tepetlaoxtoc, Texcoco, Chalco, Ixtapaluca, Tlalmanalco, Ecatzingo, and Ayapango.
• More than 150 people from Texcoco and Amecameca—mostly youth and women—received 30 hours of training.
• Collaboration with 30 ejido commissioners.
• Agreement for the implementation of a standardized entry fee across all parks.
• Development of a general directory of ecoparks.
• Participation in the International Firefly Festival 2025, which welcomed more than 61,000 visitors.
