Xyaat Community Vibes
Small town vibes perfect for millennial aspirations, Señor is more than a little town, it's a flourishing community focused on learning, welcoming, and setting down roots that people from all over come to experience.
Xyaat is an environmental conservation organization within the little town of Señor, in the very center of Quintana Roo. The little town is about a 30-minute drive from the Tren Maya station of Felipe Carillo Puerto. Named for a regional palm tree, Xyaat is among the most experienced tour operators in the area.
Stays at Xyaat include an immersive experience with the people of the community, beginning with a ritual offering in thanks for the fruits of the earth. Guests are invited to learn about agricultural activities in and around the town and the production of henequen. Hands-on demonstrations introduce guests to the artisan process of transforming the plants into resistant fibers used in ropes, textiles and other products.
Groups will often head off into the fields and the country to witness the unique landscape, and the historical and cultural legacy of the people who have lived here for centuries. All experiences are aimed at promoting local culture, environmental education, and knowledge transmission. All experiences are nature friendly, sustainable, and culturally responsible. Tours are organized within the community so that guests get direct experience of Maya culture.
The town of Señor is also well-known for the prime examples of contemporary Maya architecture and an inviting small-town vibe. The town is roughly a 30-minute drive northwest from the Felipe Carillo Puerto station on the Tren Maya. And a variety of taxis and combis will greet passengers alighting there and returning to Señor.
