El Fuerte, located in the northwest part of Sinaloa, is known for its rich tourist offerings that include natural, historical, architectural, and cultural attractions, as well as its indigenous Yoreme traditions. It is part of the Sea of Cortez – Copper Canyon Ecotourism Circuit.

El Fuerte, located in Sinaloa, is a tourist destination known for its history, colonial architecture, natural beauty, and Yoreme traditions.

Its main attraction is the town of El Fuerte, founded in 1564 by Francisco de Ibarra. It was added to the Pueblos Mágicos program on July 16, 2009.

Among the top attractions in El Fuerte are activities such as sport fishing, Cerro de la Máscara, Iglesia de Dolores, the Legend of Zorro, Los Portales, the Miguel Ángel Morales Ibarra Community Museum, the Mirador Museum, the Municipal Palace, La Galera Recreational Park, the Main Plaza, the Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez dams, the El Fuerte River, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Temple, Tehueco, and the La Galera Zip Line.

Major festivities include the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel on September 29, featuring Moor and Christian dances, music, and a fair; and the Civic Festival on November 16, showcasing traditional dances such as the Deer Dance, Pascolas, and Matachines, along with fireworks and a fair.

The local gastronomy is rich and varied, with representative dishes such as machaca (dried shredded beef), caldillo (beef stew), pineapple tamales, seafood platters, freshwater crayfish (cauques), and bass-based dishes like chicharrones and zarandeado fillet. On the sweet side, highlights include pepitorias (nut brittle), jamoncillos (milk fudge), coyotas (stuffed pastries), and buñuelos (fried dough pastries).

The most representative handicrafts include basketry, furniture making, and palm weaving. These artisanal works, primarily created by Yoreme artisans, form one of the richest expressions of craftsmanship in Sinaloa.
