Huatulco

Nine heavenly bays on the coast of Oaxaca make for a dreamy and far-away adventure.

Huatulco

Huatulco is a far away surf, beach, and eco location way in the south of Oaxaca. The entire area includes some 35 kilometers of coast, nine unique bays, and endless jungle, wildlife, biodiversity, and adventure. No fewer than 36 resplendent beaches are nearly always but lightly visited. And the towns themselves, La Crucecita, Santa Cruz, Chahué, and Tangolunda, each welcome visitors from all over the world.

Each little town preserves its own character and only Tangolunda in the east of the region is mostly given over to giant resorts and hotels. But that said, it's still an overwhelmingly natural and blessed region of quiet surfing, beaches, and nature trails.

More than anything Huatulco is known as a nature tourism destination. The Huatulco National Park covers an enormous area to the immediate west of the region at better than 11,000 hectares. If for nothing else, visitors come to explore the many jungles, trails, inland areas and nature preserves within the park.

And while visitors are in town, they quickly adapt to the taxi system. Private one way, with shared returns, you quickly see that the region is as conscientious as it is beautiful.

Most guests arrive to Huatulco via the Huatulco Airport (HUX). Flights from Mexico City arrive year round. Seasonal flights will arrive from Monterrey, Oaxaca, Tijuana, as well as Dallas and Chicago. The trip by bus from Oaxaca City to Huatulco takes about six hours. From the Puerto Escondido airport, the trip is a little over two hours.
