Comitán de Domínguez
Colonial Comitán, Pueblo Mágico, heir to ancient indigenous settlements, was founded by the Dominicans shortly after the arrival of the Spaniards to the region of the Llanos in the 16th century. The city of Comitán was the cradle of the independence of Chiapas and Central America, and also the birthplace of men and women who have made great contributions to the country\'s culture, such as Mexico\'s civil hero, Belisario Domínguez or Rosario Castellanos, one of Mexico\'s greatest writers.
For its traditional architecture of houses with roofs and neoclassical touches, its climate, flowery patios, luminous horizons next to Mayan temples and magnificent colonial churches, its elaborate gastronomy and cultural activity, it received the denomination of Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town), since 2012. This area of the plains enjoys unique beauties in the country.
