Sabor de la Sierra is a fantastic restaurant high in the mountains of Tabasco. The safeguard of the culinary legacy of Tapijulapa, El Sabor de la Sierra is a family restaurant and an extension of the home of owner Doña Jaqui. A traditional cook, she's dedicated her life to keeping her ancestors' secret recipes alive. Together with her artisan husband, they've turned their passion into an unforgettable experience for those seeking the essence of the Pueblo Mágico.
Since 2010, El Sabor de la Sierra has established itself as a key destination within the town. Dishes served present the authentic flavor of Tapijulapa in a unique gastronomic experience. Traditional pishul includes a giant flat tortilla called totoposte covered in re-fried beans, pork, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and cream. This is the emblematic dish of the Tabasco mountains. The restaurant also specializes in providing more information on everything they serve.
Traditional foods and seasonal fruit juices are all handcrafted on site. The restaurant is just above the town embarcadero where views let visitors take in the high mountain river and the pedestrian bridge, just upstream. The same corner is convenient to everything within the town, and just a block northeast from the main park.
Most people will get to Tapijulapa via Teapa, some 45 minutes to the southeast. The trip between the towns is extraordinary, but Tapijulapa is also home to a number of exceptional lodging places that will make you want to stay a bit longer. It's simply a fantastic place to stay, and the food is a big part of the reason.
