Labor de la Ventilla, a journey through colonial history and architecture

Hacienda La Ventilla en Villa de Reyes

Just 6 kilometers from the municipal seat, along a paved road, lies Labor de la Ventilla, founded in 1606 by Juan de Zavala. After his passing, the hacienda passed to his nephew, Juan Ruíz de Zavala, who focused on raising livestock, both large and small, consolidating the economic and social importance of the site. Over time, the hacienda became part of the Marquisate of El Jaral, maintaining its historical relevance in the region.

The main house is an impressive two-story building, with wide corridors adorned with arches and a courtyard paved with river stones and tiles arranged in a careful pattern that reflects the perfection of colonial style. Every corner of the hacienda tells the story of its history, the lives of its inhabitants, and the cultural legacy that endures to this day.

From the viewpoint, visitors can admire the Valley of San Francisco and see where the three routes of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro converge, a testament to the strategic importance of the hacienda in past centuries. The combination of architecture, landscape, and historical heritage makes Labor de la Ventilla a destination that is not only visited but experienced and remembered.

Exploring this place is stepping into a piece of Mexican history, where every arch, every stone, and every panoramic view tells stories of tradition, effort, and legacy that still keep the essence of the colonial era alive today.
