The Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca (IAGO) was the first cultural space in the city founded by the renowned Oaxacan painter Francisco Toledo, in November 1988. This institution houses one of the most important collections of graphic arts in Latin America.

IAGO has two locations within the historic center of the city. The first venue, which originally housed the Institute, is an 18th-century building located at 507 Macedonio Alcalá Street, almost in front of the Santo Domingo Temple. This location offers books on subjects such as printmaking, architecture, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and art theory. It also features three exhibition rooms, two courtyards, and the “El Alacrán” Workshop.

The second venue, inaugurated in 2010, is located at 203 Juárez Avenue. It contains books on subjects such as poetry, fiction, essays, philosophy, psychology, and music. This location also houses the Eduardo Mata Sound Library and a hallway dedicated to exhibitions.

It is worth noting that between both locations, visitors have access to more than 50,000 books. Additionally, the Institute regularly offers reading workshops, Q&A sessions, artistic and cultural exhibitions, as well as film and music screenings.

At IAGO, freedom is key. It is one of the few libraries with open shelving, where users can freely browse and select any books they wish to consult.

Admission to the exhibitions is free, allowing visitors to discover the graphic works of artists such as Erasto Cortés, Piranesi, Jan Hendrix, Leopoldo Méndez, Marc Chagall, Pierre Alechinsky, Rufino Tamayo, Fernando Aceves Humana, Picasso, Giorgio de Chirico, Goya, and Posada, among others.

Currently, the institution works in collaboration with the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and the civil association "Friends of IAGO and the CFMAB."
