One of the most beautiful museums in the heart of the city is the Museum of Philately (MUFI), which is unique in its kind throughout the entire Mexican Republic and Latin America. This magical place was founded in 1998 as an initiative of the AHHO Foundation. MUFI was created to fulfill the need for a space dedicated to philatelic arts, with a growing collection housed within contemporary architecture. It is a vibrant space where postal themes inspire the arts.
The museum showcases in its galleries large collections featuring fascinating and important topics from around the world through beautiful displays, including themes such as: Baseball, Soccer, Railroads, Mexico, Prominent Figures from the country or from Oaxaca, national and international culture, the Olympic Games, Orchids, Postmarks, Arthropods, Mailboxes, and more.
MUFI’s collection comprises over 200,000 pieces, including postage stamps, first day covers, special cancellations, miniature sheets, postal art, and an extensive bibliographic archive, all of which form a valuable heritage. The collections are organized by theme or country. Temporary exhibition rooms offer visitors a glimpse into philatelic history.
Moreover, MUFI welcomes visitors of all ages, every day of the week, offering open-air spaces to enjoy a good book, a peaceful moment, or a conversation with friends or a partner. At certain times of the year, the museum also offers artistic and cultural workshops, special exhibitions, and presentations of new gallery rooms.
