Tlaxco Labyrinths
Red-earth canyons and adventure in Tlaxco
During the walk you discover caves and natural formations resembling columns and arches, creating a natural maze that served as a refuge for ancient inhabitants. The reddish colors contrast with the blue sky and make for spectacular photographs, especially at sunset. The tour lasts about two hours and can be combined with a visit to Tlaxco’s historic center, a Pueblo Mágico famous in Tlaxcala for its cheese and silver workshops. Horseback rides and bicycle excursions are organized in the surrounding area, and guides tell local legends such as the apparition of lights in the caves.
During the walk you can observe animal tracks such as hares and foxes and endemic plants that have found refuge in the earth walls. Locals offer bicycle and horse rentals to explore the site sustainably. At the end of the visit, you are encouraged to sample artisanal cheeses and mezcal produced in the Tlaxco region.
