Altiplano Zoo

The Altiplano Zoo in Apetatitlán, Tlaxcala covers 13.5 hectares and is home to 534 animals of 104 species in exhibits featuring native fauna, felines, African savanna, and exotic animals. It offers a serpentarium, an interactive exhibit, a zip line, and an artificial lake, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

The zoo features educational areas where conservation workshops are offered. The serpentarium and nocturnal area allow visitors to observe reptiles and other nocturnal animals. Recreational activities such as zip-lining and boat rides on an artificial lake are also available, making it ideal for families. Each exhibit recreates the natural habitat of species such as jaguars, Mexican wolves, zebras, and giraffes, promoting animal welfare.

The zoo participates in breeding programs for endangered species and collaborates with universities on research. Visitors can feed some domestic animals in the interactive farm area and learn about ecology in talks given by biologists.

The park also organizes themed events on special dates and has cafes, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The zoo is child-friendly, making it an ideal destination for a day out. Its residents include giraffes, white lions, and Mexican wolves, species that are part of conservation programs. The zoo also features a herpetarium with venomous snakes and rescued turtles, as well as a butterfly garden.

Educational programs allow schools to adopt animals and participate in their care, fostering environmental awareness from an early age.
